It's annoying but I got used to it (try playing a game like WoW, Perfect World, D2 or many other where you see people name like : IaMtheL3et).

I love novelty names, they let me know when I should leave party's in ra, ha, and pve. For instance, if I see an assassin in ra with any format of Naruto in the name, I know that there is a 95% chance, that guy will have...

a: no rez
b: critical defenses
c: an "I'm better than you" complex
d: all of thee above.

So no, I can't say that novelty names bother me, they inform me.

I don't really care what people call their characters. Though got to admit, friends and I have goofed on anyone we've seen with: aragorn, legolas, naruto, vegeta, drizzt, any combination/spelling of grim and reaper. lawl!!! Look at that dumb motherRED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing naruto fan!!! He's bad! etc.

Heh, I like novelty names when they are actually fun or amusing.
Thankfully I don't see too many Naruto names around. But then I do steer clear of RA.

I just want to see combination names thereof...

Like "Narlas Leguto" and "Vegagorn Araeta."

The day it was combined with way of the master, and a scythe, then it just became annoying. More or less in my opinion if you need critical defenses to boost survivability get a better build.

Tell that to my warrior, Chuck Nornis.

Ah, my guild leader (I fee so weird referring him to him as that, as he's a close real life friend I introduced to guild wars ) only ever uses obscure novelty names. I don't mind them.

I also have two characters with Japanese names, yet I guess that's inevitable for someone who actually studies the language properly. Then again, the rest of my characters have foreign names from different cultures and hell, I had a character with a name from my own background.

Otherwise, what reeaally irks me are names such as '_____ Is Sexy' in obvious reference to themselves. Yeah, sure you are, pal. If you really were, you wouldn't be blatently shoving the fact in people's faces.

... You'd be spamming them with a link to your myspace.

I only enjoy novelty names when they are spelled correctly and/or match the name they're trying to reference making it a real 'one of a kind' and rare name that they probably had to have gotten at the beginning of GW years ago.

*looks at his character select screen*

Yeah...

As long as they can play the character well, I couldn't care less what they call it.

The only problem is, when I see a player who named his character something dumb, like Xx Pwnxor xX or something, I will typically assume they cannot play the character well. And I assume correctly much of the time. There are exceptions, of course, but most of those people are arrogant, bad, and leeroys.

Everytime I see a name along the lines of 'Yoshiyuko Tashimaro', I cringe a little. Get off your romanticized conceptions of samurai, please.

Novelty names are alright...it's just stuff like...Kakashi/Legolas/Sephiroth/[Insert massively popular fantasy character here] that I refuse to take seriously.

My name, I Snow Bunny I, was a term an ex-girlfriend called me. I have since dumped her, but I retain the character

And my new ranger, Sean Equals Ftw, is my version of shamelessy ripping off of Tommy.

Some I like, most I don't. And, I must admit, my main character has a novelty name: Rex Easly. It's more subtle but, still...
